July 2022 Board member report

1st July – 31st July

This July was the second wettest since 1962 and we certainly felt that as a number of our projects had to be put on hold during the downpours. The Hillsborough/Commodre roundabout edges onward – as I write this, the roundabout outline is on the road now and people seem to be adjusting to it quite well.

It was great to approve the Integrated Area Plan at our Business meeting this month. This has been a long process where the board, mana whenua, and Albert-Eden board members have worked collaboratively to produce a 30 year plan for parts of both boards. One of the real highlights for me is the cultural mapping provided by mana whenua, telling a part of the story of Puketāpapa that has been missing in Council publications in the past. I can see this being really useful for schools as they look to introduce more local history to their curriculum.

We also gave the final sign of approval for the “Puketāpapa – He Taunga Pahikara, a Cycle Haven” programme. This project aims to see an increase in students cycling, walking and scooting to schools and will be funded at a 9 to 1 basis by Auckland Transport. This kind of investment is a huge win for Puketāpapa and our goals of being an active, clean and green local board.
