1^st June – 30^th June

June was a great month for seeing things getting done, or at least getting started. We had site visits to Cameron Pool and Fitness Centre and Lynfield Community Centre, had the tour of Freeland Reserve which looks great and much improved, hosted Manu Aute Kite day on Puketāpapa, attended many community events and managed to get some trees into the ground in Lynfield Reserve. Auckland Transport restarted works on the Hillsborough/Commodore roundabout and began the works on the Waikōwhai Primary crossing and Greenways Route D and also invited us to the opening of the New Lynn to Avondale Shared path. The path connects up to the Waterview Shared Path – allowing Mt Roskill residents to connect up to Avondale Station on an off-road path!

I presented to the Planning Committee on behalf of the Local Board, reporting on our unaninmous resolutions which requested Council to investigate an overlay over the special ecological area of Wairaki Stream and to investigate removing SCA around rapid transport stations. It is inequitable to have places like Lynfield and Waikōwhai intensify while areas like Kingsland and Morningside that sit beside train stations remain unchanged.

I eagerly await the finished works on redoing the Wattle Bay path, which will be a great refresher of that section of the Waikōwhai Coastal Walkway.
